Hampshire SCITT Training Programme Update
The training programme ended on 30 June. The Exam Board for the SCITT met on 23 June to hear an overview of the year from the SCITT Director and to agree the list of trainees to be recommended to the DfE for QTS. We then had our celebration lunch on Friday 24 June which was a delightful event. It is always tinged with sadness as inevitably we had to say goodbye to some of the trainees who have secured posts outside Hampshire. Most of the trainees have teaching jobs in Hampshire though and many of them will be on our ECT programme. One of the strengths of the SCITT Partnership is that our relationship with trainees does not end with the completion of their ITT year: many of them stay in touch, asking for references as they seek promotion and making use of our huge networking capacity. It is always a pleasure to receive news of a promotion from someone we have trained – we love hearing news of their developing careers.
Some of the trainees started their new jobs on 1 July. They are all looking forward to starting their teaching careers and two of the final training days were specifically designed to ensure that trainees were well informed about their ECT years: The ECT years and the continuing importance of reflective practice and Thriving in your ECT years.
We are now halfway through the Teaching Internship Programme, a new venture for the SCITT in partnership with HISP and the Research School. The aim of the programme is to provide undergraduates studying for a degree in STEM-related subjects the opportunity to experience teaching maths, physics, or computing before they commit to it as a career. Our small cohort of interns are enjoying the programme and making the most of the experiences and information we are giving them.
We have almost finished recruiting for our 2022-2023 training programme. We have closed our places but we still have a few outstanding interviews. We will be delivering a primary programme as well as continuing with our well-established and highly successful secondary programme. As always, it is a privilege to be training the next generation of teachers.
