Fundamental English and Mathematics

Trainees are no longer required to take the literacy and numeracy Professional Skills tests.  However, all teachers are expected to be competent in fundamental English and mathematics.

As an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) provider, it is our responsibility to ensure successful trainees meet this requirement before Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is awarded.  This check could be done during the initial selection process or during the ITT programme.  Any work to address deficiencies must be taken by the trainee in addition to what is covered during our training programme.
