Summer Term 1 Newsletter
The Hampshire SCITT Partnership
Our trainees, on both the secondary and primary programmes, are now approaching the end of their second term and many of them have secured teaching posts for 2023-2024, mostly in their home school or schools within our partnership, so we are continuing to make a significant contribution to teacher recruitment in Hampshire. Partner schools involved in hosting and delivering training days continue to be very impressed by the trainees' professionalism and commitment to the development of their practice and this is reflected in the employment rate.
The trainees are now working on their second PGCE assignment. They have already submitted literature review on a chosen intervention which they will put in place with a group of students and after the Easter break, they will implement the intervention and then reflect on its impact on student progress. Staff from our HEI partner for the award of the PGCE, the University of Reading, have continued to provide first-class preparation and assignment feedback to our trainees, and we are already looking forward to working with them again next year.
Strong mentoring continues to be at the heart of our training programme and future mentor training sessions this year will focus on refining teacher practice through effective coaching conversations. A final session, Towards excellence in mentoring, will be optional and will be available as a recording with related readings in the summer term. This session will be relevant and appeal to those mentors who are committed to mentoring as part of their professional development and see it as an invaluable and enjoyable part of their professional practice.
